The 90,090-ton Brilliance of the Seas was delivered to Royal Caribbean by the German shipyard Meyer Werft in July 2002.  She was the second luxury cruise liner to have been built by the Papenburg shipyard for Royal Caribbean.

In addition to a very slim, yacht like design the 2,100-guest ship luxury liner’s interior offers a variety of special features and great comfort. Almost 75% of the cabins are outside cabins with private balcony.

The turbine plant, podded propulsion, state-of-the-art stage technology and interactive communications systems provide comfort, entertainment and safety of the latest technical standards.

The staff and crew this ship are friendly and helpful to a fault, and any reasonable request was accommodated without hesitation.

The ship’s abundant announcements pushing bingo games and art auctions are a distraction. And the lack of poolside patio-style tables and chairs in the open-air central pool area is a disappointment. These types of furnishings are used inside the Solarium, and a large number are on the stern, aft of the Windjammer Cafe (though these are covered with awnings and primarily used for al fresco dining). Both fore and aft of the Windjammer Cafe are indoor areas set with lanai-type furnishings (faux wicker sofas, with coffee tables) that set a relaxing atmosphere.

Brilliance of the Seas has some of the best balcony cabins at sea; for the very best, look to the aft cabins on Decks 7-10, where the Cat. D rooms have the largest balconies on the ship (13 x 9.5 ft.)

Brilliance of the Seas also had just completed the replacement and upgrading of beds, linens, and pillows during our time on board, and new duvets to replace the sheets and blankets previously used were due the following week.

Another innovative program is Scratch DJ101 classes, which are available to all ages, along with special two-hour sessions just for teens on Liberty of the Seas. After their lessons, teens can showcase their music mixing knowledge in a graduation performance that friends and family can attend.

Most importantly, when on a cruise, one experiences some priceless bonuses: unpolluted air and a virtually noise-free environment. These are truly, in the modern context, balm for the soul.
